RE: Camping lights/Decor!!!!!!

We have rubber duckies. A couple of strand of them, enough for the awning. We also have a couple of light ropes we use if we need lighting on the ground ( I stumble easily on uneven ground. That's about it.
I do enjoy seeing all the decorating.

RE: Water heater temp. adjustment?

WELL!!! Bummer. I just looked at mine, and it is an Atwater also, and no thermostat.
With our TT ( now sold ) if the weather was close to freezing, I'd go out and light the pilot light on the water heater. It gets to freezing here so seldom, and we go camping all year long, so the whole winterizing thing we just eased through with keeping everything warm enough to not freeze.
Hummmmm - got some planning to do now.

RE: Changing a Family Traditon

We started doing that a few years ago. It is wonderful, the kids and grandkids who can, join us for a day or two. No set menu, may be turkey etc, may be burgers.

RE: Transporting the cats

Our cat Baby loves to get in the Motorhome. We've never taken her with us anywhere, but she will just climb in anytime the door is open. I worry a lot that she will get in there and me not know about it. She is about 19 (was a gift years ago, and whe was grown then) and too old to start traveling now.

RE: Where to list Wheelchair Accessible RV ?

When we were looking for ours, we searched everywhere we could find. The most helpful was RV Trader.com. We are in Texas and purchased in California. The larger the broadcast area, the more response.
Cragslist is also a good area, but people can not look nationwide, only locally ( using the search feature ).
You may be surprised at how quickly you sell ( if priced correctly ), there are not a lot of units with full accessability out there.
Good luck

RE: How do I check the battery fluid level

OK Guys. I'm old, female, and not the strongest of people. I can't get them out - just not possible for me. We bought the MH in March. It has always had very good battery output, but just recently they are down and not charging from the shore power. There are 2 roof top solar cells. I think ( have no idea how to check their output) they are charging some.
I'm really getting tired of trying to figure out the previous owners mods. I guess I'll just either take it back to Camper World, or call the RV Dr again. Between the Generator work, replacement of AC and the work on the wheelchair lift, it seems something is going on.
So anyway thanks for the responses

How do I check the battery fluid level

Sounds simple - right?? Well, there are 2 house batteries, they are in a compartment without slideout capabilities. They are hooked together ( inline - parallel - ???? ) and there is VERY LITTLE ROOM in there.
I've tried a mirror, but can't see a thing. Plus there are these locking type bars attached to the fill holes. ( never seen these before, so cant describe very well )
Anyway. They are not charging with the MH hooked to shore power, so need to figure out if it is the charger, or the batteries.
Any suggestions?

RE: Strange smell coming from toilet on new TT

You will find the vent on the top of the TT. It is usuallly near one side or the other approx area of bath. It will have a "vent cover" cap on it. Cap usually just pops off and you can shine a light down it. Birds and wasps LOVE to make nest there!!!
I agree that the smell may be from the glue type products. Try to leave the windows open and prop the toilet open. After a few days see is the smell is deminished.

RE: Strange smell coming from toilet on new TT

Do you mean SOURED smell? I'd suggest filling the tank completely with water ( you may have to keep watch thru the toilet with a flashlight) adding some bleach ( ?? cup or so depending on size of tank) and letting it soak. Then dump and rinse.
Have you made sure the vent is not clogged?
You will get a plethoria of replies here. If they all fail, then think about taking up the toilet and turning it upside down on the lawn. You may be surprised at what will be inside where water normally doesn't reach!!!! :E
EDITED: Reread your post! It's new so take it back to the dealer and let them hunt for the smell.

RE: RV Lifestyles in a 5 buck a gallon world

We are on a fixed income, so EVERYTHING is budgeted here. That said, we budget the trip , not the gas. The percentage spent on gas will take more of the pie, but it is easier to think of the whole pie, than just the wedge ( large yes ) called gas.
When planning on our next trip ( Austin, Texas and area ) I was greatly surprised how little the additional gas prices effected our other plans.

RE: how long before black streaks become permanent?

Mr Clean magic eraser. It took every streak, mark, splatter ( even where someone threw an egg ) off the old girl.
We used the Mr Clean magic eraser mop for the unreachable areas, then G-daughter climbed ladder for a few detail places.

RE: What do you camp in?

A 1988 Shasta 31ft MH. Full lift, gutted interior for turning and accessability. Modified Bath ( all shower effect. sit on toilet and spray with shower, drain in floor with perimiter water stops ).
Specially built L shapped beds in back ( allows a full 5ft turning radius)
Works very well for us.

OOPS!!!! Boo Boo #1

Well, I did it this time.:E
Backing in to the driveway, I overshot the stops for the rear wheels, and bumped the overhang on the garage. Now the ladder is bent, and the overhead has a nick in it.
Nothing else hurt, so I guess I'd better count myself lucky.
Next time I'll make sure Oscar is outside before beginning the backin part!!

RE: dometic refrigerator

Well, I learned something new today. I never knew what that clip thingee was, never really gave it a thought.
The refrigerator has always just stayed cold enough. I guess it has been adjusted correctly all along.

RE: Awning sizing

Yes, thank you both. I do intend to take it to have it fitted etc. It just was a discussion Oscar and I were having. The main point was where the arms could go ( can not block the handicap lift door, or main door), and we just wondered if the arms would be mounted below the bays. Seemed a long way for an arm, but had never thought about it before.
The awning will not be able to extend beyond the doors due to the roof configuration.
We like to have as much pre-information as possible before going to the RV places.
Are all the arms the same width ( the actual arm, not distance between ) ? Just another thought bouncing around in the old noggin!!
Thanks everyone.

Awning sizing

Our MH doesn't have an awining. We will be thinking about puting one back on, but have a question.
Will be bottom brackets be located below the bay doors? Or will they be mounted above the bay doors.
I can't see how we could have an awning and still have access to the bays where the arms attach to the side.
Anything else I should know?

RE: A/C is back

He said the most likely cause was a low voltage at some point. I'm thinking it was with the generator running when we went to Mineral Wells. He also said it just sometimes happens for no known reason ( the wire connectors, old age, etc.) Voltage comming from the house was ok, so we'll concentrate on the generator next.
There is a place that works on them not far from here. I'll be contacting them for a tune up / voltage check.
Sorry everyone who had not seen the previous post. Just a senior moment I guess.

RE: 15,000 btu ac

Oh, Wow. That is one that we had thought about. Any suggestions on which one would be best. We're talking old MH. Not the best insulation I know.
The RV Dr will be here Friday morning. There is a possibility it is the inverter/charger electric panel thing. I'm ready for Friday, but that is the soonest he can come. He has done work on our TTs in the past, and I trust him a little more than the dealership places. My old MH would not be very high on their priority list. ( and his overhead is less )
